Program: Tucson Indian Center "Just Move It!" 5K Run/Walk Series

The "Just Move It!" Run/Walk Series is a 5K (3.2 miles) competitive and non-competitive running and walking series. The series will take place over a four week period. Each of the four events will be held every Tuesday evenings at various sites. It will be open to all ages.Tribes Involved:

Program Purpose:
The purpose of the program is to promote physical activity and the benefits of physical activity through walking, jogging, and running. Health information and glucose screenings will also be available at each event to bring awareness and education of diabetes and other health issues. The overall purpose is to bring together youth, adults, elders and families from the Native American community and help them continue their journey to wellness and physcial fitness.
Program Key Features:
One of the key features to the run/walk series is a competitive and non-competive component. Competitive participants run for time while non-competitive enjoy a self-paced run, jog, or walk. Other key features include a free "Just Move It!" t-shirt to each registered participant (one t-shirt, per series), free healthy beverages and snacks, and incentive prizes.
Most Excited About:
We are most excited about the competitive component of the Run/Walk Series. We are also very excited about collaborating with the Tohono O'odham and Pascua Yaqui tribes.
